Slideshow Iran

Introduction

Although Iran is a huge country with many, many aspects mostly not visible to tourists, these photos might give some impressions to the cities Tehran, Shiraz, Esfahan, the Alborz mountain-region near the Caspian sea and Abyane. I visited Iran about 10 times between 2000 and 2006.

Shows

  • [Tehran]: I visited Tehran several times; these pictures might give a small insight to a city with 10-15 million people.
  • [Tehran Bazar]: The places I like most are the traditional bazaars in Iranian cities; this series shows pictures from two bazaars in Tehran.
  • [Holiday in the North of Iran]: In autumn 2005 we had a holiday week at the Caspian Sea north of Tehran.
  • [Shiraz]: I was two times in Shiraz, in 2002 and in 2005. Both visits were impressive. At the second time I had also the opportunity to visit the monument for Hafez and the garden nearby.
  • [The Bazaar of Shiraz]: The bazaar in Shiraz is far smaller than the Bazaar in Tehran, but nevertheless very impressive.
  • [Celebration and Conference Dinner]: After the Conference in Shiraz 2002, we had a conference dinner and demonstration of traditional Iranian handicraft and music.
  • [Esfahan]: In autumn 2005 I visited Esfahan with my wife; it was quite an impression as Esfahan shows an impressive cultural heritage.
  • [Persepolis]: In 2002 I was at a conference in Shiraz and had the opportunity to visit the excavations of Persepolis and the Kings-tombs near Shiraz.
  • [Abyane]: In 2006 we visited a real pearl in Iran: Abyane. This small village is definitely worth a visit. It is located in the Esfahan province, some hours away from Tehran. It is famous for the style of the buildings and the welcoming people.
  • [Hanjan]: On the way to Abyane you pass by the small village of Hanjan. These pictures show a picturesque cementary with prayer room and the old castle near Hanjan.
